According to the monitoring plan since the launch of GBE 8th session, monitoring was conducted at the schools and universities, where GBE lessons are being taught. In the 8th session of GBE, there 65 schools with 2000 students registered at the lessons and now they learning business ethics by the Junior Achievement program, GBE. Out of 65 schools, 15 schools were selected randomly as a sample for conducting monitoring.

On May 7, 2008 we visited schools # 16, 14, 15 of Kairakum, where GBE is being taught. Firstly, we monitor teachers asking about the number of lessons they have taught, which teaching strategies were using in the course of lessons, what other additional materials were using, number of their students alongside with volunteers, whether after the completion of GBE 8th session they would continue teaching GBE as a circle at their school etc....Teachers were sincere and motivated expressing their interest about GBE program. A teacher of School # 14, Majidova Robiya was using her own experience while she was in USA and met business ethics at US schools. She was using different visual teaching materials and slides through computer to make students more interested and motivated so that they would follow by ethical standards in the future. Comparison group method was used to monitor the class of Majidova Robiya, by the results of visiting the class and asking questions, we found out that students have tremendously improved their understanding of business ethics. Out of 33 students, 28 students are daily using their acquired knowledge and skills in their daily practice.

Moreover, monitoring visits were made at schools # 2, 1 of Isfara, Gymnasium, School # 1 of Istaravshan, Gymnasium, Gymnasium # 55, School #14, Gymnasium # 14 of Dushanbe, Shool # 4 of Khujand. Comparison group method and interview with students and teachers were used in the monitoring. Students have developed analytical and leadership skills. They are transferring their knowledge to others at schools, family and everywhere.

As a result, out of 15 sample we have selected for monitoring, all teachers of those schools are agree to continue the GBE lessons in the future upon the completion of the program. Proposals have been made by the teachers to ask their directors to include the GBE as additional circle at schools where, students come together to discuss issues of business ethics. Also, they are intended to organize youth club at the lesson at the schools, where business ethics issues will be taught.

“1000 + 1”, the student company of Yerevan School Number 56, represented Armenia’s Junior Achievement Program at the annual JA-YE European Student Trade Fair from April 4 to April 6 at  Linz, Austria. More than 47 companies from 17 European countries took part in the extravaganza—the annual competition that brings together the best of student companies to display their products. The event also gives the young entrepreneurs an opportunity to market their goods in a European city. Throughout the year, the students learn the theory of economics and apply their knowledge in creating student business companies. To this end, they conduct  marketing research, issue stock to raise capital, manufacture a  product, and develop marketing strategies.

Narek Aghamiryan, Vice president of the company explained “We not only learned about business, but we learned in real life about business ethics and dilemmas that can face you.  Through our classes, we had learned and discussed many issues on business ethics through our program called Global Business Ethics Program, but it is one thing to discuss it in class another to see and experience it in real life”.  
Lendrush Safaryan,  the second student added, “I learned a lot from the experience. It is one thing to watch other people conduct business; it is another to actively do it and do it taking account Business Ethics norms. Our trip was so wonderful. We got to learn much from other student companies and our experiences in selling our product. We met wonderful people form all over the world and we made so many friends.   We also very much enjoyed learning about Austria, it’s culture, history and economy”.

During thir trip to Austria students visited the Rosenbauer Company, which is the world’s largest producer of fire fighting vehicles and the largest provider of special vehicles for airport and industry. Rosenbauer also produces helmets, protective clothing and rescue products. During their visit students discussed Business Ethics related issues such as what ethical norms, values and principles are accepted by the Compamy’s Administration and Management.

Junior Achievement of Armenia is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to teach young students the basics of applied economics.

On June 20, 2008, ten student-teams from Baku’s Sabayil, Garadagh, and Khatai regions presented their enterprises in an exhibit organized by Junior Achievement Azerbaijan as part of its Student Companies project. The initiative is a part of the School Economics and Business Education Program for Baku Corridor, funded by British Petroleum and partner companies.

Commenced in April, the Student Companies project’s Spring 2008 session involved 100 students from Baku schools of Sabayil, Garadagh and Khatai regions in learning the principles of creating and running a company. Mentored by business professionals from PricewaterhouseCoopers, the students passed online training courses to explore skills necessary for developing viable business plans and actually formed student companies within their schools.

In the final round, held in Grand Hotel Europe, the most successful teams from schools ##203, 162, 50, 51, 116, 319, 294, 163, 63 and boarding school #14 presented their business plans and products to the panel of judges comprised from the members of the business community and JA Azerbaijan Board of Directors. The student-led companies offered the wide range of services from organization of school field trips, travel agency, commercial photo studio, transportation for children with disabilities, design on wood, handicraft with national ornaments, and school cafeteria, to school cinema. The business jury evaluated the students presentations based on their feasibility, competitiveness, financial planning, consideration of risks and insurance, as well as the participants’ presentation skills. “Projects like this are important for students to learn and apply business skills since school age. The students ideas surprised us with a new look at usual things; the ability to see things in a different light is necessary in business and pick you out in a crowd,” said Thomas Orr, a jury member from McDermott Caspian Contractor Inc.

At the final award ceremony, Vusal Khanlarov, JA Azerbaijan Executive Director, thanked all students, teachers, and business volunteers for joining the initiative and expressed his hope the project cultivated self-confidence in its participants. As a result of jury evaluation Baku School #203 won the competition with their field trip organization business, School #116 received second place award for design on wood and innovative school desk production, and School #51 became third with the school photo studio business. The project winners also received the opportunity to apply for the Student Internship Program will also participate in JAA Job Shadow program and study how businesses work on sites.
